Byerley Turk är en av hingstarna som lade grunden till det engelska fullblodet. Han erövrades av kapten Robert Byerley i ett slag i Buda, Ungern, 1688 från en tillfångatagen turkisk officer. Han tjänade sedan som Byerleys krigshäst i bland annat Irland 1689 och i slaget vid Boyne 1690.

Han verkade i aveln vid familjen Byerleys gods i Durham och senare Yorkshire åtminstone fram till 1701.
